About Barbara
Barbara L. Helms, M.Ed., CCC-SLP, Founder
Pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist
Literacy Specialist
Bloom Language & Literacy Services, LLC is a private therapy practice specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of dyslexia and other language-based learning disabilities. Having the privilege of being born and growing up in Beaufort, I have worked in many local settings, including school, nursing home, assisted living facility, home health service and private practice. While working in a pediatric center, I recognized an urgent need for language-literacy diagnosis and intervention in Beaufort County. Because of this, I received further training through the Academy of Orton Gillingham Educators and Practitioners. This training is intense, systematic and provides a high efficacy level with hands-on knowledge that is passed directly to patients and their families.
